ABC Awards Level 2 - Certificate in Fashion and Textiles (500/5197/0)

The ABC Awards Level 2 Stitching Academy is a twelve week course which follows on from level 1. You will develop your skills further by using industrial specialist machines, review blocks and understand design principles.

By the end of the course you will have constructed a more tailored garment.

What you will study:

You will study 5 units, 25 credits in total which, upon successful completion, will gain you the ABC Level 2 Certificate in Fashion and Textiles.

Industrial garment construction, 5 credits

You will be introduced and taught how to identify and use specialist machinery and methods of construction and pressing, typically used in the fashion manufacturing industry. Based on this knowledge you will design and construct a jersey top, followed by a skirt with a pleat in a woven fabric.

Accessories Bags, 5 credits

You will learn health and safety in relation to accessories (bags), research different shapes, learn to construct in 3D, and make a fully lined bag with fastenings.

Garment construction (Craft), 5 credits

You will use commercial patterns or blocks to produce a blouse or a shirt with sleeves, a collar, button and buttonhole fastenings and cuffs. You will explore current high street fashion trends and produce a sketchbook of fashion designs and ideas.

D5020372 Design principles in the fashion and textiles industry, 5 credits

The key stages and processes involved in designing are covered in this unit. Learners will explore how mood boards and trend research are used to inform and inspire design direction. They will learn how to analyse this information by sketching and by translating concepts of form and shape into three dimensions. Learners will then develop their designs systematically and in detail, using a range of drawing techniques and media. They will consider design function, suitability and fit. They will source fabric swatches and trimmings appropriate to their designs

Soft Furnishings, 5 credits

You will gain an insight into co-ordinated soft furnishings. A mood board for a bedroom will be produced showing current trends, a colour scheme and a variety of soft furnishings. You will be shown how to select techniques appropriate to fabrics and threads and this will link to the other units.

How you will be taught

From the beginning, your learning be practical with some written components. As you progress you will have the opportunity to produce a more tailored garment. Your progress will be reviewed at regular intervals to ensure you are getting the most from your course.

What can I do once I have completed the course?

Upon successfully completing the course, you can seek employment with your new found skills, interview for bridge training or apply for an apprenticeship.
