Overview of Apprenticeship Role:

  • Apprenticeship Role: Sewing Machinist Apprentice  
  • Apprenticeship Course: Level 2 Standard Sewing Machinist Apprenticeship
  • Reports to: Production Manager 
  • Location: Wood Green, London

We have a great opportunity for two sewing machine apprentices to work at Adajio factory in Wood Green, London. Adajio are a family business that makes garments for leading UK retailers.  

You will work as part of the production team, learning and using various different sewing machines; overlock, lock stitch, flat lock and felling machine. You will also have the opportunity to gain experience of the whole end to end production – from cutting through to packing. 

Overview of the Apprenticeship Course: 

The apprenticeship programme is split across two areas over a 21-month period (18 months on-programme and 3 months completing the end point assessment (EPA).

The On-the-Job period (typically 80%) includes the 4 days a week you will be working in your apprenticeship role at the Adajio’s factory, learning the various knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) required of this apprenticeship role.

The Off-the-job period (typically 20%) includes the 1 day a week spent training with the Fashion Technology Academy in Haringey on your apprenticeship course, learning various aspects of the apprenticeship programme and producing a portfolio of coursework as evidence of the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) that you are developing both on and off the job. 

The End Point Assessment period of 3 months which comprise of 3 assessments; a practical skills test, an observation in the workplace and an interview underpinned by your portfolio of evidence.

The successful candidate will achieve a Level 2 standard apprentice qualification as a sewing machinist and have the opportunity to gain industrial sewing experience.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Using Industrial sewing machines  
  • Creating entire garments 
  • Managing tension and quality of a garment 
  • Maintaining machines 
  • Using different fabrics and components 
  • Using a variety of sewing production techniques and methods
  • Inspecting the quality of work and monitoring and maintaining the workflow
  • Opportunity to learn the end-to-end manufacturing process 
  • Assisting other members of the production team 

We’d love to meet someone with:

  • Level 1 or 2 award in Fashion and Textiles 
  • Basic knowledge of using and maintaining Industrial sewing machines 
  • Good attention to detail with a positive attitude
  • Team player capable of working under pressure to deadlines 
  • Hardworking and willing to go the extra mile to complete tasks
  • Not essential but be great to meet someone with a knowledge of fashion apparel

Apprenticeship Salaries:

  • Age 16-17 – £4.81 an hour / Age 18-20 – £6.83 an hour / Age 21-22 – £9.18 an hour / Age 23+ – £9.50 an hour (National Living Wage).
