Held on Friday 21st April, the FC Designer Workspace in Islington was a buzz of creative activity as the full-to-capacity Repair & Upcycle 1-day workshop got underway.
Thanks to sponsorship from YOOX Net a Porter, Fashion-Enter Ltd was able to offer up to 25 individuals a free place on this popular workshop.
Attendees were able to learn how to repair, alter or upcycle existing garments to give them a new lease of life and prevent unnecessary textile waste.
FEL’s experienced and friendly tutors were on-hand to support on all of the attendees projects and the atmosphere at the FC Designer Workspace was fun and informal.
Overall feedback on this Workshop was brilliant and included:
“I learnt how to understitch facing. Everyone was friendly and understanding.”
“I learnt how to thread a machine and stitch in a line / square. It was a fantastic day.”
“I learnt a lot about stitching, creative ideas and thinking out the box. Great, highly recommend.”
“Found out about different ways to upcycle clothes and give them a new lease of life. Thank-you for a great time.”
“10 out of 10. I now know how to set up a machine and sew in straight lines.”
“It was great volunteering here today, it was a lot of fun and very inspiring, thank-you!”
FEL CEO Jenny Holloway added: “Being able to repair, upcycle or make a garment from scratch, is a lifelong skill that is fundamental to caring for our clothes so that they last that bit longer. 360,000 tonnes of textiles are thrown away each year with the average garment being worn only 10 times. It is time to rethink how we buy and care for our clothing and being able to make good repairs or alternations is a great place to start.”
More 1-day Repair and Upcycling sessions will be announced in due course.
