Following our successful day-long AI in Fashion conference, held in partnership with InnovateUK KTN and Style3D in February, we joined forces once again to host a condensed version of the seminar available to a broader reach, as a webinar. Taking place from 10 – 11:15 am on the 19th April and Fashion-Enter Ltd’s CEO Jenny Holloway was in the chair as moderator. The session attracted over 120 individuals from a cross section of industry and education.
Representatives from the likes of the University of Chester, Nottingham Trent Uni and the London College of Fashion listened to presentations from Huamin Wang from Style3D demonstrating its numerous capabilities, while industry professional Peter Witham discussed AI as an innovative tool for designers, he commented; “AI as a tool for designers is just liberating.” He explained that, as a designer for large brands over a number of decades, he has never felt so inspired by the design capabilities that AI can provide. Peter is now setting up an AI Designers Guild as a resource for sharing, learning and networking.
The presentation rounded off with talks from InnovateUK representatives discussing the various grant funding options that are available. There is a real push to increase the implementation of AI and as a result government funding streams, facilitated by InnovateUK, supports early adopters of AI within their business.
The webinar ended with pertinent questions from attendees and these ranged from ethics and IP issues, the quality of rendering, the accuracy of fit, and how to progress augmented AI for the future.
FEL CEO Jenny Holloway commented: “AI should not be feared, it’s about reducing tasks, not taking away jobs. Now is the time to get involved, using software such as Style3D to create samples saves over quarter of the time it takes to do them physically.
“I was delighted to hear from Peter Witham and his future aspiration for an AI Designers Guild which Fashion-Enter fully supports. A bit thank-you again to InnovateUK for organising this event along with Elizabeth Brandwood from Style3D.”
The requests and demand for AI is now reaching heights for the Styleverse at Fashion-Enter’s Unit 4. Again, a new 3-day course was held last week and during this period the participants were delighted with the quality of the teaching from Harry Mack, an ex-Central Saint Martins Digital Design degree student. Participant feedback gave the course 10 out of 10 for teaching and content.
“If fashion is to become cleaner and greener the only way to do this is to remove tasks from jobs so there is more time for creativity. This is exactly what Style3D does, it give us the opportunity to spend time on strategic ways forward as well as bringing a new perspective quicker and more efficient then ever before into the design and construction process. This is a unique collaboration which we are delighted to be the first in the country to showcase.” Jenny added.
