Results Day 2018 – Discover Why Apprenticeships Might Be A Better Option Than University

Today students up and down the country are receiving their A level results and despite the introduction of new ‘tougher’ exams this year the number of top A-level grades is at a six year high.

In total, 26.4 per cent of students were awarded either an A or A* this year, the highest since 2012 when 26.6 per cent achieved these grades. However figures show that university may not be the preferred route for all students with UCAS reporting the number accepted onto UK degree course has fallen by 1% from last year, and universities reporting there are a significant number of courses still have places available.

Could apprenticeships be a better option than university? With high university fees and no guarantee of a job at the end of the course, students are now considering their options following A-levels and with a combination of work based learning, gaining a qualification as well as a foot in the door apprenticeships are becoming a viable option. On 15th August The Independent stated ‘Employers favour work experience and apprenticeships over degrees, claims poll’

At the Fashion Technology Academy we have delivered the Fashion and Textiles apprenticeship since 2010 and as England’s leading training provider for fashion offering levels 2, 3, 4 and 5 in apprenticeships across garment technology, stitching, patterns and tailoring it is an exciting prospect for school leavers seeking a career in the fashion industry.
