On Wednesday, December 11th, 2024, five apprentices from NEXT participated in an on-site session at Fashion-Enter Ltd in Haringey.
The group engaged in lessons focused on pattern drafting and sewing, followed by an exploration of fabric testing. Throughout the workshop, they examined various fabric types and learned different testing methods, including assessing fabric weight, fabric pilling, and conducting the water bead test. The fabric testing is part of the ‘Materials in Production’ unit, which covers the various fabrics and fibres used in the fashion industry.
In the afternoon, the apprentices attended a session with Sonia, a senior garment technician at FEL. They discussed AQL, potential garment faults, and issues arising during production. Additionally, they reviewed our contingency plans, which included using alternative finishes, fabrics, or changes in design.
