Meet Salvatore – Intermediate Tailoring Student At The FTA

Salvatore initially studied tailoring in his home country, Italy, where he developed a passion and skill for the bespoke, handcrafted technique. He soon discovered however that it was in London with the Fashion Technology Academy (FTA) where he could gain hands-on experience on how the real heritage industry works.

He chose the FTA due to its emphasis on industrial tailoring techniques and that it provides a unique learning experience within a manufacturing environment as well as being taught by a former Saville Row tailor. He said the way the FTA works in London is much more efficient, being able to create the patterns and make amendments much quicker making the whole process much more seamless ultimately saving time and money but not compromising on the technique or quality of the finished garment.

Salvatore also said that: “Rebecca is a very good tutor, she has taught me secrets and tricks of the trade I would never have learnt before this course.”

He is due to complete the 18-week course next month and his plans are to move back to Italy where he now feels much more confident in his ability to achieve a successful career as a tailor. It has been fantastic to have Salvatore on the course, we can’t wait to see what he will go on to achieve!
