March Update From Leicester’s Fashion Hub – SIRM, Skills Bootcamp, Business2Business

The Fashion Designer Weekender with SIRM

It was great to collaborate with SIRM, 21st March, a collaboration that can mutually benefit SIRM and FEL’s Fashion Hub. In the evening of 21st March, we got to know more on what SIRM does and how important mental health and wellbeing is within the creative industry.

CEO Junaid Elahi provided warm welcome and insight into SIRM and how their courses can help and support individuals to become creative and productive entrepreneurs. Asafa Dar, Therapeutic Counsellor took us all through mental health within the creative industry, how to handle stress and keep calm and manage stress levels day to day. She also discussed the fashion industry which is renowned for high stress, she gave her top tips and strategies for managing and checking in with yourself.

This was followed by a sustainable jewellery workshop led by tutor Ann and provided a creative and relaxing activity to wind down on a Friday evening.

Interviews for our candidates on Skills Bootcamp course with Data Image Group

On 23rd and 24th March, 11 of our learners, who have excelled on the Skills Bootcamp course on Garment Production Techniques and Repairs, attended a job interview with Data Image Group. This vacancy is for a Finishing Operator who can handle industrial lockstitch and overlocker machines, and can sew silicon for banners. Our learners went through a training session and a 1-hour trial with the company. Fingers-crossed, we are now waiting for the results and feedback on interviews.

Learner Latifa said: “I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Fashion-Enter / Fashion Hub for giving me the opportunity to attend this interview. It was amazing experience, I liked the work environment and the job. I am looking forward to hearing back from them. This opportunity was not possible without getting on to the Skills Bootcamp course which I have completed at the Fashion Hub. This course not only gave me the skills and qualification for this job, it also gave me the confidence in the interview process.”

Jo, Tutor added: “I am very proud of my students. The company was very welcoming. The job almost resembles what is taught on the Skills Bootcamp course. Although this company is about exhibition displays / furnishings etc, rather than garments, it was a great experience for the learners to use some different materials with the lockstitch machine. I could see the candidates confidence grow throughout this course and the interview process. Some hadn’t been for an interview for couple of years and for the majority it was their first interview. Well done to all.”

Job Fair Organised by Business2Business

On 25th March, Business2Business continued to support Leicester’s Fashion Hub by promoting our courses. It was great to be a part of this Business2Business job fair. Fashion Hub Assistant Manager, Divya, could meet candidates face-to-face, talk them through the courses on offer and how we not only support with qualifications but also with confidence and skills. Divya was also able to make people aware of our Skills Bootcamp course, supporting specific production training, securing job interviews and employment.

One of the recent Skills Bootcamp candidates, referred by Business2Business, has recently been offered full-time employment. She had done our Level 1 Stitching course and progressed onto the Skills Bootcamp course which helped her get a job with Barrie Knitwear Ltd.
