On December 10th, Lan Leeder, the Head of Education, held a Learner’s Voice and Next Steps session with the Level 1 Stitching students in Islington. During the session, Lan outlined the options available after completing the course, including a Level 2 or 3, an apprenticeship or starting their own brand.
Lan also shared a link to the short courses on Eventbrite and highlighted the additional services at the FC Designer Workspace, including hot desking, table and machine rentals, and free masterclasses. To keep everyone informed about upcoming events and masterclasses, Lan encouraged everyone to subscribe to the FashionCapital newsletter and to leave a review on Google.
Overall, the learners had a positive experience, appreciating the space, tasks, and support from their tutor. They enjoyed their time and wished there were more funding to do a Level 2. They were grateful for the free course. The only suggestion was to extend the course hours and days.

Aim of the Learners Voice:
· To ensure that the learners’ aims are being met
· To find out if there are areas for improvement
· To confirm progression routes and next steps after the courses
· To provide quality IAG – Information Advice and Guidance for all learners – both Exit and Next Steps
· To ensure that the cross-section of learners was a representative of their cohort
Discussion on the Next Steps:
· What fashion/vocational courses are available
· Fashion apprenticeship
· Studio space to rent
· The Fashion Studio
· Upskill with digital training
· How to start your own brand
Below is a dialogue between Lan and the learners:
What went well?
“I like everything about the course; it has a mixture of sewing and pattern cutting—the pace, staff, and structure of the course. I like everything about the course.”
“ Everything! I like all the sewing tasks. I’m taking this course to support my business. I have my own brand. I want to learn how to sew and make my own clothes.”
“I love the course, the place, and everyone. The course is highly hands-on and rewarding in the end. I like the written and practical elements of the course.”
What could be improved?
“Longer hours, more days to practice.”
“More hours and days to practice. 5 weeks is not enough.”
Would you recommend the course?
ALL: “YES”
What do you need for the next steps?
“To do Level 2 Stitching. I am grateful for the funding; otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to afford it.”
“I have my own clothing brand, I do all the designing, and my supplier makes my clothes. My next step is to sell at the FC Designer Collective shop.”
“To do Level 2 Stitching. I have registered for Level 2.”
Feedback from the session:
“I have learned about the different options after completing the course. I wish there were funding, as I love being here! “
“Very informative session!”
