Latest From Leicester – Fashion Hub Out in the Community

13th November 2024Speed Networking with Judgemeadow Community College

This event was organised by the School Events Team at LEBC to network with Year 9 (age 14 to 15 year old) students.

It provided a great opportunity to inspire the students, to advise and share information about the career opportunities that are available. We explained how the fashion industry works the range of job roles.

It was lovely to speak to students and answer their questions relating to career opportunities, how to prepare themselves for job, what needs to be included in CV’s, how to work towards their dream job, how to cope up with bad days at work, sharing the good days at work.

Divya said:This event made feel emotional as I shared moments from day 1 of my working life and my struggles in order to achieve where I am today, I hope this inspired students to never give up and to prepare for their adult working life.”

13th November 2024 – Course Promotional Event with Twin Employment and Training Leicester

It was great to visit Twin Employment and Training and meet different employment coaches, tutors and explain about how Fashion Hub Leicester can support their candidates, as well as discuss all our courses and workshops. We were able to reach out to so many of their candidates and discuss personally about the Skills Bootcamp course that we are delivering.

We would like thank Mathew, Engagement Officer from Twin Group for getting in touch and discuss ing how we can support each other, and in turn help the individuals in gaining skills for work and employment opportunities.

The event was great success, we referred our learners to the Digital, ESOL and Maths classes that they deliver, and they referred their learners to our Level 1 Stitching and Bootcamp courses.

We also discussed, with the Director Parul Ahmed, a Christmas workshop for their candidates which will be scheduled for next month and thereafter regularly to build the candidates confidence and encourage them with different opportunities.

07th November 2024 – Belgrave Neighbourhood Centre Coffee Morning

It was lovely to be a part of the community and attend a coffee morning organised by Zinthiya Trust in collaboration with Leicestershire Police. It provided the opportunity for us to speak to attendees about our courses and how the Skills Bootcamp course can help individuals get back into work.

Most of the attendees were ex-garment workers and wanting to return to employment within the garment industry. It was good interactive session and useful to explain how our courses will help them to upskill and get ready for work in the repairs and upcycling sector, delivered through Skills Boot Camp with a guaranteed job interview.

Finally, we also supported The University of Manchester on their research on the worker’s voice mechanisms within the Leicester garment industry. They interviewed one of our Skills Bootcamp learners about her experience in the sector. Despite all the negative press, there was a lot of positive points that the learner expressed about working in the garment industry. This also helped our learner to gain confidence, and she really enjoyed sharing her work journey story.
