It is a philosophy that resonates strongly with the mission of Fashion-Enter Ltd (FEL) and its educational division Fashion Technology Academy, where technical excellence, education and ethical UK manufacturing sit at the centre of what we do. Increasingly, designers around the world are recognising that fashion’s future depends not only on creating collections, but also on nurturing the next generation of skilled makers. Suno Smith is part of this growing movement of creatives who are building their own brands while sharing their knowledge to strengthen the industry as a whole.
Suno’s Fashion Journey
Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, Suno’s journey into fashion began with an enduring fascination for the making process.“I was captivated by how flat pieces of fabric could be transformed into garments through pattern cutting and construction,”he explains.
That curiosity led him into formal fashion training, where he developed specialist expertise in garment technology, pattern cutting, garment construction and production processes, skills that continue to underpin every aspect of his career today.
Rather than viewing technical knowledge and creativity as separate disciplines, Suno has always believed the strongest designers understand both. His work reflects an appreciation for craftsmanship alongside innovation, combining precision with creative expression.

Education as Empowerment
While developing his own creative practice, Suno discovered another passion that has become central to his career: education. Today, alongside growing his fashion labelHouse Of Suno, he teaches pattern making and garment construction to students from all walks of life.
His classrooms include aspiring designers, complete beginners and mature learners looking to develop new skills later in life. Every student arrives with different experiences and ambitions, and Suno believes that diversity is one of teaching’s greatest strengths.
“Teaching isn’t simply about sewing techniques,”he says.“It’s about helping people discover confidence, unlock creativity and realise they are capable of creating something with their own hands.”
Watching students gain confidence through practical making remains one of the most rewarding aspects of his career. It is an approach that perfectly reflects FEL’s own commitment to creating opportunities through education, practical training and industry-led learning. Both share the belief that technical skills are not only essential to the future of manufacturing but also life-changing for individuals seeking sustainable careers within the sector.

His Connection with FEL
Suno’s introduction to FEL came courtesy of one of his own students. A UK citizen travelled to Cape Town to undertake one of Suno’s Pattern Making and Garment Construction courses before continuing with private tuition to further develop her technical skills. After returning to Britain, she decided to continue her learning with FEL’sFashion Technology Academy.
“That was the first time I heard about the organisation,”Suno recalls. Curious to learn more, he began exploring FEL’s work and quickly recognised an organisation whose values closely aligned with his own.
He was particularly impressed by FEL’s commitment to technical education, ethical garment manufacturing, skills development and creating genuine career pathways within the industry. Since then, he has continued to follow the organisation’s work with admiration.
“Their focus on quality manufacturing, education and nurturing talent strongly aligns with my own passion for technical fashion education and skills development. It is an organisation I have long admired, and I hope to one day contribute to and learn from that environment.”
Creating the House Of Suno
Alongside teaching, Suno continues to grow House Of Suno, a creative platform that reflects his multidisciplinary approach to fashion.
Rather than existing solely as a clothing brand, House Of Suno combines design, education and innovation, bringing together garment creation with practical learning and knowledge sharing.
He is also developingaskSUNO, a digital learning platform designed to make fashion education more accessible through technology, helping aspiring makers develop industry skills regardless of their location.
His recent participation in fashion events and collaborations with fellow artists and creatives has provided further opportunities to showcase both his craftsmanship and his broader vision for a more inclusive and skilled fashion industry.

A New Generation of Fashion Mentors
Suno represents a growing generation of fashion professionals who endorse a sharing of skills and encouraged development. Increasingly, designers are becoming educators, mentors and community builders alongside running their own brands. They recognise that sharing knowledge strengthens the industry, preserves valuabletechnical skillsand creates opportunities for others to succeed.
This collaborative mindset mirrors FEL’s own outlook. As the industry continues to evolve, organisations and creatives alike are recognising that education, manufacturing and design are not separate conversations but interconnected parts of a sustainable fashion industry. For Suno, teaching and designing are simply two sides of the same purpose.
What Next For Suno
As House Of Suno continues to grow, Suno’s ambitions remain firmly rooted in craftsmanship, education and opportunity. His long-term vision is to build a platform that inspires future makers while bridging creativity with technical excellence and modern manufacturing.
He hopes to continue contributing to an industry that values skilled craftsmanship, sustainability and lifelong learning, an industry where fashion is measured not only by the garments it produces, but by the lives it helps transform.
