Why Take On Apprentices?
Apprenticeships provide a fantastic way to bring new energy, ideas, and skills into your company. At FTA, we provide high-quality, industry-focused training that ensures apprentices are fully prepared for the fast-paced world of fashion and manufacturing.
And with government apprenticeship funding, the financial side of taking on an apprentice has never been more supportive for small employers.
Available Government Funding for Apprenticeships
£1,000 Incentive Payment
Your business can receive £1,000 per apprentice if they are:
- Aged 16 to 18, or
- Aged 19 to 24 and either a care leaver or have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan due to a learning difficulty or disability.
Foundation Apprenticeships: Up to £2,000 Support
Employers can receive up to £2,000 in additional support for foundation apprenticeships, helping cover the costs of bringing young people into the business and guiding their professional development.
Who can do a Foundation Apprenticeship?
- Anyone aged 16 to 21 can start a foundation apprenticeship.
- Those aged 22 to 24 can also participate if they:
- Have an EHC plan,
- Are in care or have been in care, or
- Are in prison or have been in prison.
Upskilling in Maths and English
The government also funds maths and English training for apprentices. This means employers don’t need to set academic entry requirements.
Local Government Support
In addition to national funding, local government grants and schemes may also be available to further support your business in hiring and training apprentices.
Employer National Insurance Contributions
Employers do not have to pay national insurance contributions for apprentices under 25 who earn less than £50,270 per year another great saving for small businesses.
Funding for Apprenticeship Training Costs
If You Do Not Pay the Apprenticeship Levy
Most small businesses do not pay the Apprenticeship Levy. In this case, your business will only contribute up to 5% of the apprenticeship training costs the government covers the remaining 95%.
However, in many cases, the government will pay 100% of the training and assessment costs (up to the funding band maximum) for apprentices who are:
- Aged 16 to 21, or
- Aged 22 to 24 with an EHC plan or who have been in local authority care.
If You Do Pay the Apprenticeship Levy
If your company has a pay bill over £3 million per year, you’ll contribute to the Apprenticeship Levy and can use your levy funds to cover apprenticeship training and assessment costs.
