Fantastic news for FTA Haringey learner Angela. The Skills and Education Group have agreed to provide Angela with a grant towards the purchase of an industrial machine adapted for her needs, help with the costs of setting up her new business and food and drink for college.
Angela commented: “I am so thankful and overjoyed that I have received this grant. I am so grateful and I appreciate the assistance I received so far to obtain this grant, it has motivated me to pursue my career in the fashion industry to be a pattern maker, designer, and a machinist, so that I can work for myself since no one wants to employ me based on my disability with garments. Fashion-Enter has been really supportive and helped me with the application process. The grant process has been quick, efficient, and stress-free for me.
“In this course, I have recently learned how to coherently and effectively convey my story with garments. Garment construction without a decent sewing machine can be very difficult to put ideas together. When I receive the grant, I will order my industrial sewing machine straight away. I’m so happy that I can have it adapted with hand-controlled buttons for stop and start and an up and down function for needle control too. This will allow me to use both hands, which I am unable to do on a domestic sewing machine.”
