FTA Supports ‘Mend It May’ With Repair & Upcycling Workshops

On 26th May, both London and Leicester celebrated the spirit of Mend It May with successful repair and upcycling workshops focused on giving garments a new lease of life.

At the FC Designer Collective, sister shop to the FTA Islington campus, the team hosted its popular bi-monthly Repair and Upcycling Drop-In session, welcoming individuals who brought along multiple items for repair, alteration and creative transformation.

Meanwhile, at the FTA Fashion Hub in Leicester, attendees enjoyed a dedicated Mend It May workshop filled with creativity, learning and community spirit.

Feedback from the Leicester session was overwhelmingly positive, with participants praising the welcoming atmosphere, supportive tutors, and the opportunity to upcycle cherished garments into wearable new pieces.

One attendee shared: “Had a brilliant day at the repair/upcycling workshop, loved every minute. Upcycled a dress to a top and skirt which I love, had the dress for years just sitting in the wardrobe not being worn.”

Others said: “I had a lovely day today. Managed to make a reversible sun hat from an old pair of jeans. It was great to meet all the staff again. Met some new ladies. Keep up the good work. See you all again soon.”

“Very welcoming, the tutors were very helpful and supportive. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would like to continue to pursue further as really enjoyed it.”

“Excellent all round. Thoroughly enjoyed myself and would like to come back! I have always been enthusiastic about recycling and this is another way to help me meet my goals.”

“Really enjoyed the opportunity to use the machines and get advice and help with my project.”

The workshops continue to demonstrate the growing appetite for sustainable fashion skills and community-led initiatives that encourage repair, reuse, and circular fashion practices.
