On Tuesday 22nd September, the FTA had the pleasure of joining UKFT Futures at The Kia Oval, where we had the opportunity to meet young students from across London and introduce them to the UKFT platform, as well as raise awareness of the wide range of career opportunities available within the fashion industry.
The students were engaged throughout the day and asked some really thoughtful questions about the industry, demonstrating an openness to exploring how their existing knowledge, interests and skills could be transferred into careers within fashion.
To make the experience interactive and encourage their creativity, FTA tutors hosted a number of hands-on activities, including a “Drape the Mannequin in Under 5 Minutes” challenge, which allowed students to explore their creative thinking and design skills. We also ran a “How Fast Can You Stitch a Button?” competition, which tested their focus, precision and practical hand skills.
The teenagers really enjoyed the activities and the opportunity to engage with fashion in a practical and fun way. It was fantastic to see their enthusiasm and curiosity, and hopefully the FTA tutors were able to inspire some of them to consider the many different pathways available within the fashion industry.
The FTA looks forward to joining UKFT Futures again and continuing to engage with and inspire the next generation of fashion talent.
