The Fashion Technology Academy, Islington campus, held two sewing workshops for young adults aged 16 to 18 on Friday 15th and 29th August.
The workshops gave participants the chance to have a go on the industrial machines, learn some basic skills and to hear about the courses the FTA has to offer, particularly the new Level 3 Diploma in Creative Practice: Art, Design and Communication, which is a free 1-year course for 16 – 18 year-olds. The two sessions attracted a great turnout with over 20 participants.
During the workshop participants learnt how to use the industrial sewing machines, including threading, sewing and operating. They concluded the sessions by stitching a simple wallet to take home. They also had the opportunity to speak with the teachers about the Level 3 course, review the portfolios, and discuss any questions they had related to the course.
