FEL To Speak at UKFT’s Sustainability Conference 2024

The UKFT’s Sustainability Conference 2024 taking place in London on Thursday 26th September, will take an in-depth look at ‘Tackling Textile Waste in the UK: Legislation, Impact and Solutions‘.

This year’s edition will build on the success of the 2023 and 2022 Sustainability Conferences, by providing clear guidance and updates on the latest developments in Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and recycling initiatives in the UK.

This event is specifically tailored to offer UK brands and retailers’ compliance and sustainability teams, recyclers, government, universities and other organisations the tools they need to tackle textile waste in the UK. Speakers at the conference include a broad range of industry professionals, including Jenny Holloway, Fashion-Enter Ltd / FTA CEO. Jenny will be joining Tim Cross, Plan B/Circular Textiles Foundation and Tony Burns, ACS, to discuss solutions beyond waste management.

UKFT’s Sustainability Conference 2024 offers the opportunity to:

  • Receive first hand updates on the latest development in Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
  • Get an overview of the industry’s progress in developing recycling infrastructure.
  • Explore the advances of UKFT’s ACT project, which aims to develop and pilot a pioneering fully-integrated, automated sorting and pre-processing demonstrator for waste textiles.
  • Connect with leaders from across the UK fashion and textile supply chain.
  • Find out about government-funded research programmes.

Recognising the environmental impact of textile waste, stakeholders have increasingly turned their attention to circular economy principles, seeking innovative solutions to reduce waste and resource depletion. The adoption of recycling technologies and practices has emerged as a key strategy, aimed at diverting textile waste from landfills and repurposing it into new materials or products.

Simultaneously, the concept of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) has gained traction, shifting the onus onto manufacturers and retailers to take responsibility for the end-of-life management of their products. EPR mandates incentivise producers to design products with recyclability in mind and invest in collection, recycling and disposal infrastructure.

Please note this is a private UKFT industry-only event.
