Leicester Giving Day 18th Nov
It was great to welcome those in the local community into the Academy on Friday 18th as part of Leicester Giving Day. It was fantastic to see the talent on show, as Zarina supported attendees to bring their upcycling ideas into reality.
Attendees used end-of-life fabrics to create new garments, along with garments from home, which encouraged their creative flair in repurposing garments.
If you would like to make your own garments, then you can hire machines at the Academy by the hour £5; day £25 or week £100. (All prices +vat).
FCFTA Welcomes the Society of Dyers and Colourists
On Wednesday 16th November FCFTA welcomed members of the Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC) to the Academy.
The SDC is a unique community for coloration professionals and those interested in colour, that promote the study of colour by providing webinars, short courses and publications. As a Royal Chartered Body they offer up to degree-level qualifications and are the only body who can award Chartered Colourist (CCol) status.
It was an opportunity for Cllr Adam Clarke, Lord Young (Chair of Fashion-Enter Ltd), Fashion-Enter CEO Jenny Holloway and Deputy Jackie Bertram to discuss with the SDC members the changing face of textiles in the UK and skills required to support its future.
Deputy CEO Jackie said: “Leicester’s heritage in textiles is well known, but it was fantastic to discuss future opportunities with SDC including those that encompass education, skills and collaboration.”
