FCFTA Leicester Welcomes 4 new starters onto the Level 1 Award in Fashion and Textiles – Industrial Sewing
The demand for this course in Leicester is high, as Leicester is the largest UK area for apparel/ garment manufacture, employing over a fifth of the UK workforce. Our new learners are keen to gain a career in the local garment industry.
This course is a great introduction into using and becoming comfortable using industrial sewing machines. The learners learn about how to thread an industrial machine, ensure correct tensions, use different machines and understand how to check quality of finished goods.
Do you want to learn how to make garments in just 1 week?
FCFTA Leicester will continue to offer this 1 week course throughout Autumn. This week Puja and Marta have joined the course. They both completed Level 1 Award in Industrial sewing course in early Summer. Both are now keen to make garments and learn skills such as insetting sleeves and applying cuffs and necklines.
Puja said: “I want to learn how to use the overlocker in more detail and at speed. I am comfortable using the lock stitch – but I would like to be as confident on using the overlock machine.”
Since completing Level 1 stitching Puja is now working freelance at a design studio, she supports on pattern cutting and using the lock stitch sewing machine to make samples.
Jackie Bertram, Deputy CEO at Fashion-Enter Ltd comments: “It’s great to welcome back previous learners on this new short course. The Academy is here to support those that want to learn a new skill and also make your own clothes. The Academy is available to use if you would like to “rent some studio time”. For £5 an hour, £20 a day, or £70 a-week the Academy can be your own fashion studio.”
