Fashion Hub / FTA Leicester Launches Basic Digital Skills Course to Support Learner Progression

On 12th January 2026, Fashion Hub / FTA Leicester proudly launched a new Basic Digital Skills course to support learners enrolled in its Stitching and Skills Bootcamp. The initiative reflects Fashion Hub’s ongoing commitment to removing barriers to employment, training and everyday independence for learners entering the fashion and textile industry.

Delivered in partnership with Wesley Hall Community Centre, the training is taking place at the Fashion Hub academy on King Street, Leicester, and is currently supporting 10 learners.

The five-week course is designed to equip learners with essential digital knowledge and practical IT skills that are increasingly vital both in the workplace and in daily life. Sessions are held once a week on Mondays, with each session lasting three hours.

Course content includes:

  • Effective use of smartphones
  • Accessing and navigating the NHS App
  • Online shopping and digital transactions
  • Basic computer skills
  • Internet safety and online awareness
  • Guidance on applying for benefits online

By focusing on real-world digital tasks, the programme helps learners build confidence, independence and resilience, ensuring they are better prepared to engage with services, training opportunities and employment pathways.

Supporting Learners Beyond Technical Skills

While the Stitching and Skills Bootcamp focuses on developing practical garment production skills, Fashion Hub / FTA Leicester recognises that digital inclusion is essential to learner success. The Basic Digital Skills course is one of several initiatives designed to provide wraparound support, helping learners overcome digital exclusion and gain the confidence needed to thrive both professionally and personally.

This holistic approach ensures learners are not only developing technical skills for the fashion and textile industry, but also gaining the digital competence required to navigate modern working life and everyday responsibilities.

Strengthening Community Partnerships

The delivery of the course by Wesley Hall Community Centre highlights the importance of strong community partnerships in supporting local learners. By working collaboratively, Fashion Hub / FTA Leicester continues to create accessible, supportive learning environments that respond to the real needs of individuals and the wider community.

Through initiatives such as the Basic Digital Skills course, Fashion Hub / FTA Leicester remains committed to empowering learners, strengthening employability and ensuring no one is left behind in a digital world.
