Fashion Enter & The Derry Designer Business Startup Programme

Fashion Enter recently (15th November 2017) held a ‘Garment Production Workshop’ at the Fashion Textile and Design Centre (FTDC) in Derry City and Strabane District Council of Londonderry, Northern Ireland…

Working in conjunction with the Fashion & Textile Design Hub the aim is to create a programme that emerging talents in the textile and Design industry can really benefit from. This was one of the first of three workshops introduced to the designers led by our sister company Fashion Enter and Production Director Caroline Ash.

The workshop began with Caroline informing guests about Fashion Enter and the services it provides such as the Fashion Studio for sampling and grading and the Factory where 10,000 garments are produced ethically for the retailers including ASOS.com and Marks & Spencer.

The workshop continued on to the breakdown of garment production, ethical manufacturing, visiting a factory, Far East production versus European and much more. Demonstrations and practical sessions were involved as well and designers gained further insight into how an ethical factory is run and the rules and regulations of garment manufacturing.

Ultimately the Production Workshop was a huge success and we look forward to future collaborations with the Fashion & textile Design Centre.

Deirdre Williams, Business Development Manager, The Fashion & Textile Design Centre commented:

“I just wanted to say thank you so much for providing such a wonderful day for us all at the FTDC. The designers and attendees learnt so much in one day – it was invaluable to their progression in all areas of sampling and production. The only problem was – that if we could’ve kept Caroline longer – we would have!! The designers at the FTDC have left today really uplifted – and feel that they have so much new knowledge about the real world of manufacturing.”

Fashion Enter’s Production Director Caroline Ash added:

“I really enjoyed meeting you all, it was such a shame it went so quickly. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. I am really glad the designers found it useful. Thank you again for all of your support, you have got a brilliant facility there!”

Feedback from the designers included:

“I learnt about things I did not previously consider for example metal detectors, I also learnt about the importance of information provided to the factory as a designer.” Stephanie Monaghan

“It was an insightful presentation into today’s World of Fashion Design and Manufacturing. Overall it was helpful advice and guidance for students.” Mary

“Caroline gave lots of details and tips of how to source fabrics and information about the Factory.” Tipsudar

“Caroline was a very good speaker and told us a lot of information about Fashion Enter and its fabulous work. There was a lot of useful information given to us about the fashion industry that I will take forward as a fashion and textile student.” Sarah

Fashion Enter will continue to support this programme well into 2018 and 10 designers from Derry will visit Fashion Enter’s Factory and learning facility in the New Year.
