On 22nd January, the Leicester Fashion Hub hosted an essential industry masterclass to support emerging designers as they prepare to take their first steps into production. Titled How to Get Factory Ready Before You Spend a Penny, the 1-hour, in-person session was led by industry expert Caroline Trend.
Caroline has a wealth of industry experience spanning 30-years, throughout the session she gave clear explanations of what early-stage designers / brands need before approaching a manufacturer. Fourteen individuals took part in the masterclass and were encouraged to ask questions and interact after Caroline’s PowerPoint presentation.

Divya Kamath, Operational Manager at the Fashion Hub said:
“It was wonderful to see such a strong number of participants on the day. The session was particularly valuable for those aspiring to start their own fashion brand.
“The masterclass provided participants with essential knowledge on how to prepare themselves before approaching manufacturers. Without this clarity, many designers risk wasting both time and money – something this masterclass helped them clearly understand.
“ Many participants left with renewed confidence and hope of launching their own brands. This workshop served as a crucial stepping stone, helping them gain realistic insight and direction before entering the industry.
“The topics covered, especially the Product Development Journey and Tech Pack creation, captured the participants’ attention and received excellent feedback.
“This is how we support our learners and designers: through well-structured workshops and masterclasses that equip them with practical knowledge and guide them toward achieving their dream careers.”
Attendee feedback included:
“10 out of 10 – very informative. I feel better equipped to work with factories. Great speaker, knowledgable and helpful.”
“I have gotten to know about the end to end process of design to factory production. It has been useful to know what steps to take before starting a proper fashion company.”
“Really informative and engaging workshop. Great to hear questions, input and conversations around the table to help broaden knowledge with questions and points I wouldn’t have thought of otherwise.”
