American University Students Take the Factory Uncovered Tour

FEL Director Caroline Ash had two groups of American university students in this week (11th May) to experience FEL’s ethically approved and audited apparel factory.

Caroline said: “I had two great seminars this week with American university students. They both really enjoyed the seminar and the factory tours and were fascinated with how the industry is moving forward.

It was very interesting for them to understand how we work in the UK and what they learnt was really relevant to their studies. It was great to talk to such an enthusiastic audience.”

The Washington and Lee University students commented:

“I learned a great deal about the amount of work that goes into the clothes that I buy and wear. Great speaker – it really made me think about the future.”

“I thought it was good that it was tailored to what we are learning about, the speaker was very knowledgable about everything.”

“I learned about lean manufacturing, opportunity costs and special orders. Very good tour, learned lots about manufacturing departments.”

“I really enjoyed the interaction, our guide was very engaging and interactive. Very good!”

Students from the University of the Incarnate Word added:

“I really enjoyed it and the tour was my favourite part.”

“The speaker was very enthusiastic and kind. I loved listening to her.”

“I learnt about so much. One of the best visits we have had in school, I was able to relate all of the information to things we have done in school. I felt like every base was covered from the business to the marketing to the design.”

“She (Caroline) is an amazing and energetic host. I really received tons of information and insight into the industry. Thank-you.”

“I loved it and I’m glad I had this experience.”

“This was the most educational meeting I’ve experienced. Thank you for taking us through the steps and processes of your factory.”

“I would love it if a recorded version of this seminar could be made available.”
