FTA Fashion Hub Leicester was buzzing on 17th June with 14 participants taking part in a free hands-on masterclass led by entrepreneur and Creative Business Growth Initiative (CBGI) founder Martin “Fitzzz” Ogunsakin.
The 4-hour practical masterclass guided attendees through pattern making fundamentals, bag construction techniques and professional finishing methods, with participants drafting patterns from scratch and creating their own finished product.
Post masterclass Ogunsakin Martin reviewed how the session went:
“I just wanted to take a moment to say a heartfelt thanks to Divya and the entire Fashion Hub Leicester team for making my masterclass possible. It was truly a special day and one I will not forget in a hurry.
“I’m pleased to share feedback on how the day unfolded:
“We opened with the pattern creation segment—walking participants through drafting their own pattern pieces from scratch, which was fully documented by our videographer. The energy in the room from the very beginning was exactly what CBGI is designed to create. From there we moved into the machinery and construction segment, where participants used the equipment to bring their patterns to life.
“We had 14 people in attendance, representing a beautifully diverse range of cultural backgrounds — and what struck me most was how quickly everyone came together around a common goal. There was a real sense of community in that room.
“The completion rate speaks for itself. At least 12 of the 14 participants — over 90% — walked out of Fashion Hub Leicester with a finished bag or product they had built entirely from scratch. That is not a small thing. For many of them, it was the first time they had ever made something like that with their own hands.
“This is exactly what CBGI was built to do — and being able to do it at Fashion Hub Leicester, with the support of Divya and the team, made it all the more meaningful.”
