Creative Session With Pupils at New River College Medical in Islington

On Wednesday  24th June, Fashion Technology Academy Head of Education, Lan Leeder led an art and craft session at New River College Medical in Islington.

New River College Medical is an alternative provision for children and young people with medical and/or mental health and wellbeing needs. The school is for pupils aged 11 to 16 with a range of ongoing medical needs, generally relating to emotional-based school avoidance, anxiety, self-harm, adverse childhood experiences and trauma.

Lan led a session on a tote-bag decoration activity, allowing them to experiment with design techniques and build confidence in their creative abilities.

Alongside the practical element, the students were introduced to the wide range of courses available at the Fashion Technology Academy, as well as the broader training pathways and career opportunities within the fashion and textiles industry. The session aimed to open doors for young people, helping them see fashion as both a creative outlet and a viable career path.

Lan Leeder said: “It was lovely to engage with the students at New River College Medical. The group is very creative and artistic, as reflected in their tote bags! Thank you to New River College Medical for organising the session.”
