Workers’ Educational Association Joins Forces with FTA Leicester

Workers’ Educational Association (WEA), a national adult education charity, has joined forces with the Fashion Technology Academy (FTA) in Leicester to help local adults build their English language skills alongside studying fashion and textiles. The collaboration aims to strengthen both communication and vocational abilities across the community.

From its brand-new community learning hub at Phoenix House on King Street, Leicester the WEA will offer ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) courses, while its new neighbour, FTA, will deliver hands-on fashion and textile training.

This partnership demonstrates how language learning can be seamlessly integrated with vocational and digital education in a creative, industry-led setting. By developing English language skills, digital confidence and technical knowledge, learners are able to visualise clearer routes into employment.

As Leicester’s diverse communities continue to grow, initiatives like this provide an inclusive and forward-thinking model for education – bringing together language development, creativity and community engagement, while opening genuine career pathways into the city’s thriving fashion and textiles sector.

Divya Kamath, Operational Manager at FTA Leicester said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have WEA as our neighbours! This collaboration is a fantastic opportunity that will benefit our learners in so many ways. It opens up exciting pathways for them to explore new opportunities, develop their skills and continue to grow.”
