ABOUT THE COURSE
Are you interested in learning through hands-on creation while having access to industry-standard resources? This course offers an excellent foundation for further study in a creative field at the university level, allowing you to focus entirely on subjects related to art, design, and creativity.
This course is ideal for school leavers or adults returning to education who want to expand their existing skills and portfolio before progressing to a Foundation Diploma, HND, or degree specialising in Fashion and Textiles.
Designed to enhance your understanding of the art and design industry, this course will help you develop skills across various media while responding to briefs that encourage creative thinking, research, and reflective practice. You will have the freedom to experiment with different materials, mediums, processes, and techniques. Topics may include illustration, textiles, fashion, garment construction, and digital design.
You will engage in practical workshops, gallery visits, and independent research. You’ll acquire new skills and gain experience with specialist materials and techniques. Additionally, you will enhance your presentation and communication abilities through contextual studies, exploring ideas and concepts, visual communication, and participating in presentations to both tutors and fellow students.
You will be taught and mentored by experienced tutors, all of whom have extensive backgrounds in the arts.
Entry requirements
It is recommended that you have 4 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths.
A portfolio to demonstrate creative and artistic ability.

We will also help you to develop your interview and CV writing skills.
There are two formative units delivered in a project and graded as Pass / Fail. Both units must be completed at a pass level to progress to the final project.
Learners respond to a set brief that is structured to embrace artists wanting to express themselves in 2D, 3D or 4D. The final project is graded as ‘Pass’ / Merit / Distinction’.
English and Maths
If you do not hold English and/or maths GCSEs at grade 4 or above, you will be supported with dedicated lessons to help you achieve English and maths qualifications.
Further study options after this course
This qualification is designed to help students build a portfolio of work that can aid them in securing suitable entry-level positions, training programs, apprenticeships, or self-employment opportunities.
Achieving the Level 3 Diploma in Creative Practice: Art, Design and Communication may allow for progression onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Practice: Art, Design and Communication in year 2.
