FUNCTIONAL SKILLS

Functional Skills are applied qualifications which enable students to demonstrate real-life skills in English and mathematics.

Functional Skills and English and Maths are used as access qualifications and will support students to enter higher qualifications and/or employment.

Students will be assessed with a variety of real life task when they learning has ended. Full support and preparation for the assessments are given.

LEVEL 1

Highfield Functional Skills Qualification in English (Reformed) 603/4993/1


This qualification is designed for learners who wish to develop their skills in English to help them gain the most from work, education and everyday life.
 

Duration: The GLH for this qualification is 55 hours, although teaching time depends largely on the mode of delivery and the individual learner’s needs.

LEVEL 2

Highfield Functional Skills Qualification in English (Reformed) 603/4997/9


This qualification is designed for learners who wish to develop their skills in English to help them gain the most from work, education and everyday life.

Its assessment requires the learner to apply skills-based and problem-solving techniques in realistic settings. Functional skills qualifications are recommended for learners over the age of 14. The qualification is suitable for delivery in a wide range of learning environments and can be taken as a stand-alone qualification or as part of a wider programme of study. Learners undertaking an apprenticeship will need to successfully complete functional skills, or prove their exemption, in order to pass through gateway

This qualification is designed for learners who wish to develop their skills in mathematics to help them gain the most from work, education and everyday life.

Its assessment requires the learner to apply skills-based and problem-solving techniques in realistic settings. Functional skills qualifications are recommended for learners over the age of 14. The qualification is suitable for delivery in a wide range of learning environments and can be taken as a stand-alone qualification or as part of a wider programme of study. Learners undertaking an apprenticeship will need to successfully complete functional skills, or prove their exemption, in order to pass through gateway.

LEVEL 2

Highfield Functional Skills Qualification in Mathematics (Reformed)


This qualification is designed for learners who wish to develop their skills in mathematics to help them gain the most from work, education and everyday life.

This qualification consists of 1 mandatory component. Learners must complete 1 written examination that is set, marked and moderated by Highfield. The assessment will test a learner’s representing, analysing and interpreting skills using numbers (including algebra), geometry and statistics in realistic contexts.

Mathematics examinations are available on demand in either on screen or paper-based format.

Learners will receive complimentary access to an online functional skills resource that hosts a range of engaging English materials to support learners, including initial assessments, tutorials and interactive learning resources.
