Studio Assistant Apprentice 


Qualification: Level 3 Apparel Manufacturing with Sewing Pathway
An opportunity has arisen for a Studio Assistant Apprentice to join leather handbag and accessories label Susannah Hunter in their central London atelier based in Bloomsbury. 

Susannah Hunter products are designed and handmade by a small, highly skilled team in her atelier in Bloomsbury, London, using only the finest Italian and British Leathers. Each new collection draws inspiration from the natural world. All her creations stem from pencil studies of individual blooms. They are worked up into beautiful designs, hand cut, petal by petal from sumptuous coloured leathers, painstakingly assembled and sewn together. The same approach is applied to her upholstery and wonderful bespoke furnishings collections, from cushions and armchairs to room dividers.
As Studio Assistant you will be trained in all aspects of creating leather handbags and accessories. Whilst training and learning the skills of a machinist you will also assist with the general running of the studio including greeting clients, admin duties and social media. 
Main Duties & Responsibilities:-
Learning and developing skills in constructing and producing various simple first samples.
 Understanding and use of all industrial machines such as, flat bed industrial, overlocker and zig zag
Learning and developing knowledge of different fabric types and how to handle and identify right side of fabric.
Understanding internal components and when it is necessary to use them.
Preparation of cut sample for machining.
Learning the use of industrial machinery and how to work them correctly 
Assist with the everyday running of the atelier
Any other ad hoc duties 
The ideal candidate will have:
A desire to learn excellent machine sewing skills, basic knowledge of different sewing machines with sewing terminology and techniques.
The ability to work on own initiative and under supervision.
A helpful, positive and flexible approach.
Good time management and the ability to manage their own workload.
Self motivation to acquire new skills and knowledge.

This role is available on the Level 3 Fashion and Textiles Apprenticeship programme. This is an 18 month programme where you will spend one day a week training for the qualification at the Fashion Technology Academy
