On 21st October 2020 Development Director Jenni Sutton and Production Director Caroline Ash delivered a seminar on careers and pathways entitled ‘What next after your FTA (Fashion Technology Academy) education’ to the students on the apprenticeship programme, patterns and tailoring course and the stitching academy.
The aim was to inform the students about the current climate in the industry, how they should look to adapt and the support and opportunities available to them whilst on the course and after they complete. The session included an overview of Fashion-Enter Ltd membership for anyone wanting to launch their own label, further education and training opportunities, work placements, initiatives such as N17 Creative Callings and the FC Designer Collective shop and grants and funding currently available to young people and start-ups.
Caroline also discussed in detail what it really means to be an ethical and sustainable business and how you need to be nimble in order to survive in the industry today! She explained what lean manufacturing is to the group and then went on to talk about digital courses available at Fashion-Enter including Optitex, Gerber and Vetigraph particularly for pattern cutting students looking to upskill after their course.
This was the first time this session had been delivered to students at the FTA, it was very well received and all students have been assured they will continually be supported throughout and following their course.
Feedback included:
