On 28th June, Fashion-Enter Ltd’s CEO Jenny Holloway joined Cyndi Rhoades (Circle 8 & Worn Again Technologies), Graham Clark (British Wool), Ifeanyi Okuwadi (Designer) for a panel discussion at the Future Fabrics Expo.
The Expo was held at Magazine London in North Greenwich and is the largest dedicated showcase for sourcing certified, sustainable material solutions.
Jenny and the panel, moderated by Malini Mehra (GLOBE International), discussed the headline topic ‘Revival of the UK Textile supply chain: through the Sustainability lens.’
The seminar painted a positive, yet realistic light on creating a sustainable textile supply chain, with speakers, such as Cyndi Rhoades, focusing on the first steps to achieve a viable working system in the UK.
Jenny Holloway talked about the future of the textile supply chain from a unique perspective as a manufacturer and fashion production skills educator. She talked about the effectiveness of local, micro factories that can allow small orders of fabric to be printed, constructed and shipped from one location, instead of 100’s of meters being shipped and worked on around the globe.
Rhoades expressed her view of making non-wearable materials into virgin textiles to then be used once again in garments, however grounded her aspiration by pointing out this technology will not be available within the next 5 years.
She later talked about the need for industrial eco systems and cross industry plants to reach the level of effectiveness that the renewable energy industry has.
Holloway ended the talk with a positive line, talking about the future of the UK supply chain saying; “There is so much skill and opportunity in the UK along with an opportunity to create jobs.”
