On 30th July from 11:00 – 13:00 the second in a series of Chunking Seminars took place with CEO Jenny Holloway and Caroline Ash Production Director for the Level 3 Apprenticeships.
This is a unique seminar is held to ensure that the learning undertaken by Senior Apprenticeship Lecturer Jo is then chunked together to complete the overall perspective of industry standards and that holistic learning is taking place to the lastest industrial standards and compliances.
Using the backdrop of the 132 stages of the garment life cycle the learners are given scenario settings and specific questions so there is an indication of the embedded learning that’s taken place to date.
Caroline Ash commented: “This is the second time I have undertaken this seminar and I am so impressed with the knowledge gained by the learners so far. We had learners that were at different stages of their apprenticeships and with a cross section of employers from SME to large multinational and this actually aided the learning as each apprentice was encouraged to discuss their own experiences. Every single apprentice contributed and there was a really positive attitude to the semainar too. I’m looking forward to the next Chunking Seminar!”
The positivity was certainly reflected in the comments from the learners too.
LC commented: “Very interesting thank-you. Really liked learning about ratios in garment ordering and customer orders.”
GH further stated: “I really enjoyed today’s session as I felt like all areas at work which I struggled to understand were covered in today’s session. I also feel like we all learnt from each other with all our different jobs.”
SB also said: “Today was really helpful and it opened up my mind. You learn so much and it’s very eye opening – great place to be.”
IM wrote: “Really interesting information and useful to know for studies and work. Better understanding of the critical path…will implement some of the skills learnt at work.”
Jenny Holloway concluded by saying: “We can not take the credit for these Chunking Seminars. I went to an Ofsted presentation with our Operations Manager Esme and they actually came up with the idea – we just thought what a great idea! We undertake these seminars every six-months and keep pressing the importance of industry standards, ethics and compliance – areas which very much change on a regular basis. A big well done to the apprentices today and of course to Jo too – I think we all enjoyed the two-hour seminar – it was fun and thought provoking!”
