Ravensbourne Uni Students Take the Factory Uncovered Tour

On the 2nd March 2022 the Fashion-Enter Haringey team welcomed students from Ravensbourne University. The seminar and Factory tour was led by Production Director, Caroline Ash, and in line with the students course focused on the role of a buyer.

Caroline explained each step of the garment life cycle and how a buyer can forge a good, clear working relationship with suppliers. She also discussed supply chain challenges, how long it takes to make a garment, how a garment is costed and the critical path. Taking the students around the factory they were clearly impressed with the speed, skill and efficiency of the workers and Caroline also informed the group about factory compliance and what makes Fashion-Enter a SMETA and Fast Forward approved factory.

Feedback from the Ravensbourne students included:

“I learnt how much work/time goes in to making a bulk of garments. I saw how quick they (factory staff) can work and how skilled they are.”

“10 out of 10. I learnt from a buyer’s point of view and experience. It was a good experience.”

“I have learnt so much about all the steps and the costing behind each sample.”

“Brilliant, helpful speaker. Everyone knows what they are talking about.”

“Very informative. It was fun, I loved the factory workers, super fast and efficient. I was very impressed with the machinists.”

“The speaker gave us lots of information – how the production line works and what a buyer does.”
