LCF MA Students Tour FEL’s Factory & Styleverse Innovation Centre

This week, commencing 12th February, FEL welcomed two groups of MA students from the London College of Fashion for an insightful factory tour and seminar.

The students from both groups were looking to deepen their knowledge of the apparel manufacturing process and were especially keen to address waste and the implementation of new technologies that support sustainability across the supply chain process.

Led by FEL’s Director, Caroline Ash, she commented: “This week we had two groups from the  London College of Fashion, they were MA students and had a quite a lot of experience already, so it was very enjoyable to teach them. Not all had been to a factory previously, so they found the tour very interesting, and they loved the Styleverse Innovation Centre and seeing the technology in action.”

Feedback from the students included:

“Very insightful session and learnt how technology plays a big role in processing and addressing sustainability. I would love to come back, 2-hours is definitely not enough!”

“I found out about the process of making a garment, the benefits of descaling and local manufacturing. I would have liked more hands-on experiences and a longer session.”

“I learned how digital technology is being implemented as well as AI into the design practice. How sustainability is being achieved. As well as how timing is extremely important.”

“I learned about sustainability practices, how a factory really works, how technology can help to reduce waste, how designers and factories can work hand-in-hand without loosing (too much) of the creative side.”

“I got to learn about sustainable practices and strategies, technological advancements used in helping shape the future. Very enlightening.”
