FTA Leicester were delighted to be at GN Euro in Leicester on Wednesday 30th March to deliver the SEG Award ABC Level 1 in Workers’ Rights & Labour Exploitation. This course is funded by the UK Government through the Community Renewal Fund.
This is incredibly powerful course – and has been designed to raise awareness of the basic employment rights provided by UK Law.
Leaners gain an understanding of job application process and how to spot if a job is genuine or not. It then moves onto different types of exploitation and the tools to understand if they or a colleague are being exploited, and then it focuses on ways to report concerns to GLAA (Gangmaster and labour abuse authority) and law enforcement.
Jackie the Manager at FCFTA (Leicester) said: “Thank-you to GN Euro for inviting us to deliver this course to their workers. This is a serious topic and it’s great to see Leicester businesses investing in their workforce and providing them with this essential course.
“There were some great discussions and activities with the team at GN Euro today and the feedback so far has been encouraging – I am looking forward to completing the course with them next week.”
Divya FCFTA (Leicester) Administrator added: “That was an excellent training day. All the learners (employees of GN Euro) were fully engaged in the discussion and activities we were taking them through. Just waiting to conduct next session with them which will be more interesting!”

Firoz Level 1 Stitching learner said: “I work part-time as delivery assistant for food company and usually start my work in the evening. My wife works full-time so I need to take care of the kids, dropping and picking them up from school. While walking across the Stonebridge street, I saw this big building and sign board outside. To utilise my free time once the kids are at school and to enhance my skills, I joined this course in Level 1 Stitching. Now I am used to it I have started loving it. Now even I would like to get into garment industry for work. Fashion Technology Academy has got a good environment/atmosphere and lovely tutor who can explain in different languages. I am very happy taking this course.”
