Business 2 Business Job Fair

Divya, FTA Leicester’s Assistant Manager, attended a Job Fair Organised by Business 2 Business to promote courses and apprenticeship opportunities available at Fashion Technology Academy. This was a great collaboration with Business 2 Business and Divya created awareness of the fully funded sewing and pattern making courses. This resulted in 6 interested learners for the cohort starting from 2nd May.

Skills Provider for Leicester City Council

The FTA Leicester has been privileged to be partnered with Leicester City Council as a skills provider funded by the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund. This has enabled us to deliver Stitching /Workers Rights’ and Labour Exploitation qualifications. We have now started a new cohort of 10 learners on the Level 1 Awards in Fashion and Textiles (Stitching) for May 2023.

We also delivering Level 1 Awards in Workers Rights’ and Labour Exploitation, the qualification was created by GLAA & SEG with our learners at the Academy. This course will develop their skills and knowledge to be ready for work and understand the signs of labour exploitation. This also guides those on the course where to search for jobs, how to spot bogus adverts, how to read a payslip, their employment status, contract types, and what exploitation is and whom to contact for support.

Stitching Learner Olivia Davies

Here is some feedback from Olivia Davies our self-funded learner at the Academy. She successfully completed the Level 1 Awards in Fashion and Textiles (Stitching) course with us.

Q: How did you find out about our course?

Olivia: I saw a post on Instagram and really felt like this is what I wanted to do.

Q: What made you take up the Level 1 Award in Fashion & Textiles?

Olivia: I really like to sew, make creative and designer clothes and to have my own brand. I visited the Academy to find out what courses I could take up. When I looked at the units covered and the learners at Academy, I thought I should learn the basics and Level 1 in stitching would be best for me. Then I realised that as I am not Leicester resident, I won’t be able to gain free funding for the course. I could not wait to enrol for course, so decided to self-fund the course.

Q: What have you learnt so far?

Olivia: I really enjoy being here at the FTA and have learnt so many things, how to use different machines, thread them, maintain them, create simple garments like T-Shirts, wallets, using binding, making pockets etc. This is what I need to fulfil my dream of having my own brand.

Q: What are you going to do next?

Olivia: I’d really like to do the pattern cutting course, if funding available or if there is any discount on the fees provided. I would like to use my skills I have gained so far.

Q What’s your feedback on your experience with us?

Olivia: Wonderful environment, amazing and supportive tutors. Was able to make few new friends. Overall great place to learn / gain the skills that I’ve dreamt about.
