In the height of the #metoo campaign and the marking of the 100th anniversary of women getting the right to vote, it’s fair to say the aim to for gender parity has advanced immensely.
Today is International Women’s Day and the main focus this year and there is a strong call to #PressforProgress motivating and uniting friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive. In support of breaking the gender fixed paradigms, Fashion Technology Academy continues to encourage and create opportunities for young women to get involved with science, technology, engineering and mathematic (STEM) subjects and career pathways.
For several years Fashion Technology Academy has led the way in educating hundreds of women to gain invaluable experience in training and learning alongside a live Factory and Fashion Studio ensuring they gain exposure to the real ‘Best of British’ manufacturing skills. Many women have completed the award winning and left with high accredited qualifications and have since succeeded into becoming employees of Fashion Enter and various brands such as, ASOS, Jigsaw, Marks and Spencer, New Look and much more. The academy continues to train a new generation of skilled workers to ensure that the UK apparel manufacturing sector continues to thrive.
In keeping with the progression of the women and equality movement, the academy’s sister company Fashion Enter will be attending the Women in Manufacturing Summit (22 June, Exhibition Centre Liverpool). The interactive conference format sits delegates alongside speakers, and enables patrons to lean in and participate in one of the industry’s most important conversation. Fashion Enter runs a predominantly female-led garment manufacturing business with almost 90% of the workforce being women. At the summit, Fashion Enter will be discussing the multiple routes forward within the manufacturing sector and the opportunities the industry can provide for women.
