Encouraging and nurturing new industry talent for a successful career in fashion is at the very core of the Fashion Technology Academy.
Since joining the Level 1 Perfect Patterns course at the beginning of 2017 Donna Harris displayed natural ability and a real hunger to learn more. Thanks to bursary awarded by Alvanon, the Global Apparel Business Expert, Donna was able to deepen her learning and go on to complete the Level 2 Perfect Patterns course. The intensive ten-week course gave Donna the knowledge and skills to produce a range of valuable, in-demand and technical pattern drafting and cutting skills.
Ready to enter the industry Donna applied for an apprenticeship post with the prestigious fashion house Ralph & Russo. As you can imagine the competition for the six apprenticeship positions with this high-end brand was extremely high. Donna was invited with nineteen others to an interview day at FTA HQ. The Ralph & Russo team was highly impressed with the calibre of the candidates on offer with 12 invited to attend a trial day at the atelier.
Last month Ralph & Russo announced their first three apprentices and fantastic news for Donna Harris – she was one of them. Donna will be joining Hawwa in the Haute Couture Pattern Cutting department while Matthew will work in the Ready to Wear Pattern Cutting department.

On hearing the news Donna said such an opportunity is ‘life changing’ and she is very excited to be joining the Ralph & Russo team. Her story just goes to show how you can change your life around when you are open to learning and opportunities.
