FCFTA Leicester – Weekly Update 29th June 2022

Congratulations to Bhavna

Bhavna has just completed her Level 1 Qualification in Fashion and Textiles – Industrial Sewing. She has now secured a full-time role at the new boohoo factory in Leicester in the packing department.

FCFTA Leicester manager Jackie said: “It’s great to see our learners gain employment following the course. This is a great opportunity for Bhavna and we wish her lots of success at boohoo. Not only do our learners gain the knowledge of using industrial sewing machines, but they also learn how to finish and inspect garments. This will be very useful to Bhavna in this new job.”

This Level 1 Course in Industrial Sewing is made possible thanks to funding from the government and the Community Renewal Fund.

Welcome to Rukshana

Rukshana Omar has joined the team at FCFTA Leicester as a tutor support & sample machinist. This week she has been making some fantastic garments in preparation for the Fashion Show in Wales on 8th July.

Rukshana comments:I am delighted to be offered a position as a tutor and sample machinist and to be part of Fashion Enter Ltd. I want to use my expertise to support and succeed for the company. I have really enjoyed meeting the students who are so keen to learn.”

New Learners in Level 1 Fashion and Textiles

FCFTA Leicester welcomes two new learners Aayushi and Kushali who are spending their summer – pre-University learning a new skill and gaining a Level 1 qualification in Industrial Sewing. These courses are funded by the Community Renewal Fund. Both Aayushi and Kushali want to go to University to follow a fashion career and see this course as a good way to develop their skills and construction understanding before joining their fashion course.

FCFTA Manager Jackie said: “It’s great to see students wanting to understand the full end-to-end of the fashion industry. Often students want to focus purely on design or marketing – but by understanding how to use industrial sewing machines and how to spot what makes for a good or a bad tension or stitch – will really support them with their fashion careers.”

Level 1 Workers Rights and Labour Exploitation

This week at the Academy we have continued to deliver this essential course to our learners. To date FCFTA Leicester have delivered 74 qualifications in SEG Accredited Level 1 course in Workers Rights and Labour Exploitation. This course is so well received by learners at the Academy as it supports them to find a job, understand their rights and to know what is exploitation and how to report it. This course has been funded by the Community Renewal Fund.
