FCFTA Leicester Celebrates its 1st Year Anniversary
On the 8th November 2022, FCFTA Leicester celebrated being open for its 1st year. What a first year it’s been – 190 learners have been supported by the Academy and 44 business have been engaged with as part of Community Renewal Fund programme.
Jackie Bertram, Deputy CEO and Manager said: “It’s brilliant to look back on what we have achieved in only 1 year! This has all been possible with thanks to government funding via the Community Renewal Fund programme.
“The ability to provide FREE courses to those that need it most has been so well received; 18% of our Level 1 Stitching learners have secured full-time employment in the garment industry. However, for many learners this was not about securing full-time work as this is not possible for them. Instead it’s been about building their confidence, interacting with others and improving their self-esteem. It’s been amazing to see the difference in learners from first day to their last – and the doors of the Academy are always open to them.
“We have a waiting list for Level 2 courses and hope to be able to secure funding to be able to continue to deliver FREE courses to Leicester.
“Huge thanks to Divya and Zarina who have made the Academy what it is, their level of teaching, care and support to learners inspires me every day.”
Level 1 Award Learner – Dorothy
Dorothy is in the final week of her Level 1 award in fashion and textiles – Industrial Stitching. Look what her new found confidence in stitching has allowed her to make – Dorothy made this outfit (plus matching headband). Dorothy’s aim at the start of course was to build her confidence and learn to make her own clothes – well looks like she has achieved both! Well done!
Studio Space to Rent and Make Your Own Clothes
Do you want to make your own clothes? Do you want to amend, repair or upcycle your current wardrobe?
At the FCFTA Leicester you are able to rent Industrial machines by the hour – day or week.
Hourly Rate £6 per/hour; Day Rate £25 a day and £100 for 5 days – all prices inc VAT.
On hand is our experienced tutor to provide light touch guidance – and you too can make your own clothes.

Make Your Own Garments in 4 days for £75 inc VAT
On this course you will be taught how to use the different machines, manage tension depending on fabrics and then learn to make your own garments – fabric provided.
