Social Media Manager’s create and maintain new marketing campaigns, brand promotions or product lines for their company on different sites, monitor progress using web analytic tools, and answer directly to social media inquiries, all while using the company’s voice and guidelines.
A social media manager is continuously generating content for their company, creating new ideas and campaigns, and measuring how effective those ideas are.
They need to work with other creatives in the company, such as marketing, public relations, sales, etc to coordinate their campaigns with other initiatives within the company to fit the overall marketing and promotional goals of the organisation.
A good social media manager always looks for the latest trends online, making sure that they are keeping up with public shifts in media attention.
Responsibilities:
+ Develop and implement a social media marketing plan.
+ Constantly create new content for various social media sites.
+ Identify and improve organisational development aspects that would improve content (i.e. employee training, recognition and rewards for participation in the company’s marketing and online review building).
+ Create a regular publishing schedule.
+ Promote content through social advertising.
+ Work on brand development.
+ Research the company’s target market and make sure they are addressed appropriately with the correct content.
+ Visual content has a lasting effect on the viewer, ensure the company’s visual branding is consistent.
Skills:
+ Writing: Social media managers will need to know how to write
effective copy in a lot of different styles, for websites, Twitter, Facebook etc. Knowledge of writing for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is also needed.
+ Research: Social media managers need to know what is happening in the fast changing world of social and digital media, what competitors are doing and what new measurement tools are being used.
+ Interpersonal Skills: Even through writing, social media managers are a direct connection between a company and the public. Being friendly, diplomatic and approachable online will help.
+ Good organisation skills.
+ Technical Skills: Social media managers work almost exclusively through computers. Understanding computers, SEO, internet access and being tech savvy is necessary.
