Fashion Buying Students from Westminster University visit The Factory

On Wednesday 7th February 2018, Fashion Enter welcomed two groups of Fashion Buying students to the Factory from Westminster University.

The aim of the Factory visit was to educate the group of students about the garment life cycle within an ethical SMETA and fast forward factory in the UK, both groups were particularly keen to learn more about open costing.

Director Jenni Sutton welcomed the groups with a presentation about Fashion Enter and the various departments within the company. Shortly after the presentation, Production Director Caroline Ash took the groups to the Factory Floor.

Caroline went through the multiple stages of garment production on the factory floor and the measure taken to enforce production of the garments are done in an ethical and sustainable way. The processes presented to the students included a review of; open costings, effects on fitting sessions, the effects of cabbage and much more. Soon after the tour of the factory floor, students were shown around the Fashion Studio. It is here, where students were able to gain great insight into the services provided by the Fashion studio to small run productions such as; the creation of patterns, toiling, and grading.

Overall, both tours were a great success and it was an absolute pleasure to have the Westminster University Fashion Buying students visit Fashion Enter.

Here are a few comments made after the visit:

‘I have learnt how the production of garments are made and what a factory looks like- the first time. Good insight of relevant information- as a fashion buying student. Olivia

‘I have learnt from this seminar factory environments- safety, routines etc., costing timing of garments being made. Different staff positions within a factory. Ethical values within the factory. Really friendly, and informative. Selis

‘I have learnt general running of a factory, how a garment is made, and quality control. Lovely to see a well-run factory, who value new staff. Lots of information provided, which will be assigned for studies.’ Erin
