Canterbury College Students Gain Factory Tour Insight

On the 27th January 2022 a group of Canterbury College students came to Fashion-Enter’s Factory in north London for an insightful seminar and tour. Canterbury College is a part of the EKC Group of Colleges and has been providing Further and Higher Education in Canterbury, Kent for over 70-years.

The main objective for this particular group of students was to explain and demonstrate all the different job roles within a garment factory setting. Fashion-Enter CEO Jenny Holloway led the group to each department where they could see firsthand what each role entailed. From pattern-cutting and sampling, through to cutting, stitching, pressing and packing, Jenny explained each stage with clarity and detail.

Aside from job roles Jenny also gave the group an overview on the factory and its production capabilities and what makes it ethical and fully compliant.

Jenny Holloway commented: “I was so, so impressed with these learners. They continuously asked pertinent questions, were lively and thought provoking and the two hours flew by.  Holly, the tutor, was also incredibly supportive of the visit. The learners also reviewed the different types of apprenticeships that are now available and what working in industry really means. Canterbury College you are most welcome to visit any time! Hope you had a safe journey back.”

Feedback from the group included:

“I learnt how important every step of garment creation really is.”

“I learned the whole process of how garments are made from design to completion. The whole group gained so much from this visit.”

“I found it extremely interesting and it gave the opportunity for staff and students to engage and research jobs. It gave an awareness of the jobs that could be achieved.”

“I have learnt a lot about the processes behind design and making clothes.”
