Just launched this week (Monday 3rd February 2020) and running each day until the end of the month from 10.30am – 12.30pm, Fashion-Enter is offering informal, fun taster sewing classes for Islington residents. Get to grips with industrial machines; flatbed (lockstitcher), overlocker and coverstitch machine and get taught by a highly experienced machinist who has over 40-years in the trade.
On the first day of the stitching taster launch Genieve arrived and she was introduced to Leyla, stitching tutor and CEO Jenny Holloway (pictured above). Genieve said: “I remember Jenny speaking at an event held by Kiss many years ago around 2001 – this is what inspired me to go on and study for my fashion degree. Who would have thought years later I would be here again with Jenny learning the technical skills I really need to get my collection and brand started properly!” Genieve enjoyed her session on the taster course and is now signing up for her free Level 1 qualification in Stitching next week.
This is exactly what the Affordable Workspace Project, Islington is all about. Upskilling a future generation of stitchers so they can become entrepreneurs in their own right and create and design their collections to sell in the Fonthill FC Designer Collective boutique at 113-115 Fonthill Road.
Please note that although the shop is closed for a re-fit Stephanie will still be present and more than happy to meet potential designers at the space until the works take place and it is ready for its grand opening in spring.
The stitching taster sessions are held at the Fashion Technology Academy, Unit 13, Crusader Estate,167, Hermitage Road, London N4 1LZ and all resources are available for free, however spaces are limited so please book beforehand by emailing Stephanie Knapp on: stephanie@fashion-enter.com
If you are interested in a taster stitching class but want to have a look before you book then please just drop in. You are all very welcome!
