AllSaints Attend Their First ‘Factory Uncovered’ Workshop

On 18th November members of the buying team from both menswear and womenswear at All Saints attended their first Factory Uncovered workshop.

The four-hour workshop gave the participants a unique and invaluable insight into how an ethical factory in the UK operates and what polices and audits are in place for full compliance.

Led by Caroline Ash, Production Director and Claire Solley, Senior Pattern Cutter the workshop explained the complete garment life cycle, demonstrating each process in action. Claire discussed latest manufacturing technologies with a demonstration of 3D pattern making software Optitex and Caro went into detail about:

How do factories calculate standard minutes?
How to incorporate performance related pay for machinists
Relating standard minutes to styles and machines
How are AQLs and in work checks really conducted in a Factory Environment?

Feedback from the whole team was fantastic showing that this really benefits those that have visited factories before, and those who have never been inside a factory until now:

‘It was great to have a refresh of factory knowledge after 2 years of not being in a factory. 3D pattern making was fascinating. Really informative. Will recommend!’ Dave, Head of Buying

‘Learnt about different stages of the garment construction process, the time it takes to produce garments, technical consideration and garment costings. Really good and informative!’ Sophie, Buying Assistant

‘Best practices, what to look out for on factory visits, new developments in technology and the reasoning behind costings. Very informative and engaging, friendly atmosphere. Thank-you.’ Richard, Junior buyer menswear

‘The presentation was very informative, I really enjoyed learning about 3$ fitting technology in particular. Friendly and very welcoming atmosphere.’ Callum, Buyer

We look forward to the next workshop with AllSaints.
