A Level results are daunting at the best of times, throw a global pandemic into the equation and it is safe to say there will be over half a million young people up and down the country feeling a little apprehensive this week to say the least.
After the pandemic forced schools to close this year, teachers were then asked to calculate predicted grades for their students based on previous performance. With the news that 40% of grades are to be downgraded there are undoubtedly going to be some disappointed students. However, only today (12.08) has it been announced that students can either accept their estimated grade or change it for a mark gained in a mock exam.
With so much uncertainly and confusion we wanted to explain how we can help here at the FTA.
A young person’s future does not rest on good grades at school and going to university. There are alternative options and these routes can certainly be a better option.
Here are just a few reasons why joining an apprenticeship programme can be more beneficial:
Money! Unlike going to university you earn a wage whilst on an apprenticeship, plus the training is free! Granted this is a low wage, but you will not leave an apprenticeship in debt as you will university with fees at least £9,000 and looking to rise.
On the job experience. This is invaluable! During an apprenticeship you spend four days a week in your workplace and one day a week training for a qualification. At university you can spend three years in an academic environment. Employers often state they are looking for someone with experience!
Employability. Many apprentices stay with their employer after they have completed their training and 90% of apprentices stay in employment.
How can we help?
At the FTA we are the leading training provider for the Fashion and Textiles Apprenticeship programme offering training from Level 2 right through to Level 5. Once we have your CV on file we can start searching for the right apprenticeship for you.
To join the programme you must have a minimum of five GSCE’s at grade C or above. Ideally this should include Maths and English, however there is the option of taking functional skills alongside your apprenticeship if you do not have these qualifications.
