This week (from 20th Feb) we had students from Park View school, Tottenham, Glasgow Clyde University and two groups from the Fashion Retail Academy visit for the Factory Uncovered tour.
For Park View secondary school students the session was organised by Collage Arts and was a part of the Reduce Your Carbon film project. Fashion-Enter Ltd’s CEO Jenny Holloway explained the garment manufacturing process to the group along with sustainability and new technologies such as Optitex and Kornit Digital to enable a leaner and cleaner process for making clothes.
Jenny took the group to each work station on the factory floor and answered the students questions on the FEL’s working practices and goals to reduce carbon emissions. This session was filmed for the project and will be available to view in the not so distant future.

Andry, Youth and Community Programme Manager from Collage Arts responded after the session:
“I wanted to get in touch to say thank-you so much for your and your colleague’s time on Tuesday for the visit by Park View. Their teacher Rachael has been in touch to say that the students (and staff!) absolutely loved the visit.”
Students from the session said: “I learnt how to make clothes sustainable, how long it takes, the way to make patterns and designs, the process for making clothes. It was good!”
“I learnt about how much waste is truly produced in the process of creating, shipping and selling clothes. It is very cool to visit place like this to learn more true information.”
Steve from Collage Arts added: “I learnt about the complexities of the work that goes into a single garment. Very interesting to look into the future of fashion.”
Throughout the week we also had two groups from the Fashion Retail Academy. The sessions were led by Caroline Ash and she said:
“We had two groups in from the FRA who were Year 1 Business Management students. They were keen to understand how our unique Galaxius system allows us to ensure we pay transparently showing data for who made what and when, which prevents infringement of the Modern Slavery Act.”
Students responded:
“I learnt about new, interesting technologies. Seeing how it works as an overall process. Thank-you, I enjoyed it a lot.”
“I found out about the individual garment making processes. Fantastic!”
“Great speaker, lots of information.”
“I found out about prices and how much time and effort that goes into the process.”
The week ended with a group of students from Glasgow Clyde University, Caroline commented:
“I had a wonderful session today with Glasgow Clyde University. The students were already very knowledgable so we put into context what they had learnt at Uni and how it applied to the manufacturing process. We also discussed the benefits of Optitex 3D pattern cutting and fitting. A great way to finish the week!”
