The Factory Uncovered for Arcadia

On 30th October we hosted a further ‘Factory Uncovered’ CPPD workshop for the Arcadia group

A combination of Assistant Buyers from Evans, Miss Selfridge, Topshop, Topman, Dorothy Perkins and Burton the session gave the cohort a unique understanding of how a UK ethical garment manufacturer operates.

Director Jenni Sutton delivered an introduction to the group about Fashion Enter and the sectors included in the workshop such as; Garment Technology, Buying and Merchandising.

Following the introduction Caroline Ash, Director of Production gave the group a tour of the Factory. Caroline gave valuable information about; how factories calculate standard minutes, how garments are costed and even the procedures set in place to guarantee The Factory is ethical and sustainable.

As a whole the workshop was a success, here are a few comments from Arcadia:

‘The workshop was interesting and useful and I definitely believe this should be for all Buying and Tech roles to attend. I have learnt from this workshop, the production of a garment from start to finish. As well as different techniques used to maintain an ethically compliant factory’ Alexandra, Buyers Admin Assistant, Burton

‘Great Speakers! They all took time to explain things to us. I learnt lots of insightful info from a different perspective’ Antigone, Junior Buyer, Topman

‘The workshop was very informative and great to see the machinists in work in the factory. I learnt a lot from this workshop especially the implications fittings have on a factory and how costing is done’ Fiona, Assistant Buyer, Miss Selfridge

‘The training was really informative and relevant to our day to day roles. I found the fit session section very insightful and I will be applying the skills I’ve learnt in the workplace’ Lizzie, Buyers Admin Assistant. Topshop
