River Island return for further Factory Uncovered workshop
On 21st October River Island returned for a further CPPD Factory Uncovered workshop.
The group of Assistant Buyers were introduced to the complete production process and how a UK factory can be competitive. The workshop covered compliance, the SMETA and Fast Forward audits, the importance of metal detectors, how factories calculate standard minutes and much more.
There was also a session on costings where CEO Jenny Holloway explained how garments are costed with working examples, what an open costing is, the practical stitching operations that affect costing and they went into detail with a specific River Island open costing sheet.
Following the four hour workshop a few feedback comments included:
‘I have learnt all about fabrics, pricing, life cycle of garment being made. Great information and friendly people, would definitely advise coming to visit this factory!’ Ashleigh, Assistant Buyer
‘A practical and realistic view on timelines of processes within a factory, and increased my knowledge of the detail of thee which will allow me to negotiate more effectively. Great afternoon and well organised, thank you.’ Natalie, Assistant Buyer
‘Really interesting!’ Georgina, Assistant Buyer
We look forward to welcoming the next group from River Island in two weeks!
