Fashion Enter at The Hidden River Festival

The Hidden River Festival, held on Saturday 15th September, is an annual event that brings together local organisations, businesses and the community. Along with live music, creative workshops and entertainment, there are food stalls and information booths, and this year, Fashion Enter and the FTA set up camp in one of them.

Representing Fashion Enter Ana and Esme were on hand to offer advice on all the training and opportunities that Fashion Enter and the FTA provides. There was also the chance to for visitors to try their hand at design and for children to get creative with their very own colour-in bag.

Esme, comments: “It was so inspiring to see all people from all walks of life visiting us on our stand. We created two exercises so people could have a go at being a designer. Mom’s as well as the children were so creative. Ana, Pattern Cutting tutor, also came up with an idea for children to create their own bags. We made bags out of calico and then the children coloured in the bags. It was such fun to see how earnest and creative these young children were. We met well over 100 people who want to join our Stitching Academy and Perfect Patterns - it couldn't have been a better day.”

Ana added: “I love my job because we can help so many people gain skills for a new career. Having stitching and pattern skills means that you can start your own business so easily. There is always demand for bespoke garment making or even curtains! Before I came to Fashion Enter I worked with a leading luxury company and I can hand roll scarves and even make men's ties. These skills I gladly pass on to a future generation of new stitchers and designers!”

The Hidden River Festival is a free event that really brings together the community, it was great to be involved and Esme and Ana hope to see those interested at Fashion Enter / FTA HQ in Haringey very soon.
